Site Curator and Local West Wichita Mom
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I am a military brat, so I’ve lived all over the country. But, I graduated college, got married, and had our first kid in Utah. We moved to the DFW area in Texas in 2016. We had our second kid. We just moved to the West Wichita area in September 2020 and bought our very first home. We love this area.
How did you and your husband meet?
Well, we met at college. We both went to Brigham Young University and lived in the same apartment complex. We met at our apartment’s fall semester welcome activity. It was my senior year and Justin had two years left. We became fast friends, although unbeknownst to me he had more serious plans. We started dating by midterms. We dated six months, were engaged four months, and had a beautiful late summer wedding.
Tell us about your children.
I have two children. Rhys is my energetic, Pokemon loving, taekwondo fighting, world exploring, book reading, math crunching, video game playing, hilarious son. Evelyn is my princess who loves to play with sticks and dirt, loves books and Disney princesses, loves numbers but hates letters, picky eating, stubborn girl with no inhibitions.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I speak Welsh. I studied the language 3 years in college and have tried my best to keep up with it since then. I even spent a summer semester studying abroad in Wales and traveling all over Great Britain.
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
Before I was a mom, I taught history and English to middle school students for three years. But, we made the decision for me to stay at home with the kids. However, I can’t not work. So I’ve been blogging on my own mommy and lifestyle blog on and off. I’ve also taught English to kids in China online the past three years. This winter, I even started teaching history and geography with the online class platform, Outschool. I will be applying to WSU for this fall to get my Masters in Education.
Guilty Pleasure? Hobbies?
I’m obsessed with Pepsi and chocolate and a good book. I buy books faster than I can read them! I also love running on the different trails around Wichita. My two favorite right now are Swanson Park and Sedgwick County Park.
What motivated you to start The Wichita Moms Network?
When we lived in DFW, I was the managing editor of another local mommy online resource and I loved how connected I became with the community. I realized that there was so much to do in my little suburb 30 minutes from downtown Dallas. We had more family outings to local parks, attractions, and small businesses and locally owned restaurants. I also made a ton of mom friends through this networking. When we moved up to Wichita, the first thing I did after unpacking my computer and setting up our router was contact The Local Moms Network to let me make a local site for Wichita. I wanted to bring the same amazing community experiences I had in Texas to Kansas. It is an amazing way to find out the plethora of local resources for moms and their families as well as a great way to get out of the house and make memories with your kids.
